This Is Sally
PETA launched its newest Iams Campaign ads in Dayton, Ohio, Iams' hometown,
on December 18. "This is Sally," the latest installment in the
four - ad series, features a dog named Sally who spent six years at the
Iams contract laboratory that PETA investigated. The ad was rejected by
the Indian Hill Journal, a Cincinnati community paper serving
the neighborhood of Iams president Jeff Ansell. A lawyer for the paper
said the ad didn't jive with the "feel" of the paper - though
"lack of feeling" seems more like it.
The ad series, focusing on four individual dogs cruelly used by Iams for
its "metabolic tests," kicked off with an ad featuring a dog
dubbed "Christmas"-nameless except for a laboratory identification
code ending in the letters "MAS." While Iams' canine customers
enjoyed Christmas at home with their families, this tormented dog spent
six long, lonely years in a barren kennel for Iams' experiments. Severely
neglected, he developed a serious ear infection and sores on his feet
from years of living on concrete and slatted metal.
