PETA Rewards Shelters for Ethical Decision to Dump Iams

Boycotting Iams has never been so easy—not to mention rewarding!

For years, Iams has exploited animal shelters’ lack of funds by providing them with money and/or free or discounted food, essentially buying the support of these organizations, which would most likely refuse any association with Iams if they knew about the company’s gruesome experiments on animals.

But now, thanks to PETA’s vigorous campaign, more and more animal shelters around the world are making the ethical choice to drop Iams in favor of the wide selection of companion-animal food products that are not tested on animals.

To thank the many animal shelters that have signed a statement of assurance promising not to “promote or publicize Iams, use Iams food, request Iams food donations, take Iams’ money, allow Iams to sponsor [their] events, or pass out ‘Iams Starter Kits’ to patrons,” PETA entered the shelters into a cash-prize drawing worth $1,500 to be used to further their animal protection efforts!

On January 10, 2005, PETA held a drawing and 15 award recipients were announced:
1. The Talbot County Humane Society (Easton, Maryland)
2. Pepin County Humane Society (Durand, Wisconsin)
3. Whatcome Humane Society (Bellingham, Washington)
4. Muhlenberg County Humane Society (Greenville, Kentucky)
5. Humane Society of Lebanon County (Myerstown, Pennsylvania)
6. Warwick Valley Humane Society (Warwick, New York)
7. Animal Allies Humane Society (Duluth, Minnesota)
8. South Wood County Humane Society (Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin)
9. Humane Society of Chittenden County (South Burlington, Vermont)
10. Athens County Humane Society (Athens, Ohio)
11. Windham County Humane Society (Brattleboro, Vermont)
12. Humane Society of St. Thomas (St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands)
13. Currituck Humane Society (Currituck, North Carolina)
14. Rohnert Park Animal Shelter (Rohnert Park, California)
15. Lake City Humane Society (Lake City, Florida)
These groups are among the nearly 100 animal shelters, sanctuaries, and rescue organizations that have made the ethical decision to dump Iams as long as the company continues to conduct cruel experiments that are not required by any law.
